Instead of doing resolutions, a lot of people are choosing a word of the year to focus on for the upcoming year. I decided I wanted to jump on the bandwagon because why not?
Well, in thinking of a word, I wanted a word that was as unique as I am. One that I could always remember and connect with throughout the year.
The word that immediately came to mind was:
Yeah I know, it’s kind of a silly word to focus on for the year but hear me out! As I as thinking about the qualities of a Dragon that I admire, I came to realize that it was the exact word for me.
But you see, a Dragon to me is wise, protective, fierce, powerful, and seeks riches.
Being wise doesn’t just mean being smart, it means making calculated decisions. I’ve decided this is a quality of the Dragon I want to emulate because a lot of my decisions that I’ve made in the past weren’t really the best for me and my family. Thankfully they haven’t been complete life altering decisions, but I know I could have been better.
Also, as Marvel grows older, she’s going to start to ask more and more questions (though now I can’t really understand her questions except for “What’s that?”). I could just flippantly answer the questions she asks, but I’m hoping to think about the answers I give her in hopes that it teaches her to think more for herself as well.
I think I already am pretty protective. I know I’m definitely the type that goes full on Mama Bear when someone makes a comment against a member of my family or one of my friends. I’d like to continue to remember to be protective, but for everyone that needs it. Not just my family and friends.
When you think of being fierce, it doesn’t seem like a trait you want to have. I know when I sometimes think of someone being fierce it makes me think they’re someone you need to fear. Of course, someone can be fierce without being someone to fear. To me, fierce means taking things head on with no fear. They jump into the water with two feet and don’t look back.
I get anxious a lot. I think about every little thing that could go wrong, even when there’s nothing that could go wrong. I want to attack this anxiety I have by being fierce and strong.
Being powerful kind of goes along with being fierce. But I have them as separate because power also comes from strength. I know that I have power inside me as it’s helped me in the past to get through hard things, but I need to harness that power even more during this next year in order to get through whatever will come.
This one isn’t exactly what it sounds like. I don’t want to seek after monetary gain the whole year as that really won’t bring me happiness. I feel this trait is more gaining financial freedom by working to reign in our debt and working harder to improve myself in my professional careers in order to gain more stability and provide a better future for Marvel and any future kids we may have.
By remembering to be like the Dragon, I can remember these different traits and work to have a prosperous and fulfilling year.
Have you thought of a word that you want to remember this year? Let me know in the comments!
