A huge thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing for an advanced copy of the book Frozen 2: Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr
To say I’m a Frozen fan would be an understatement. I don’t think you spend 9 months hand embroidering a cosplay if it wasn’t for something you love.
As I’ve become a mother to two girls, I’ve felt even more of a love for the world of Anna and Elsa and after seeing Frozen 2, I felt a kinship to their mother Iduna.
So when this book was announced, I was ecstatic! I wanted to know more about this Northuldra girl who would become the Queen of Arendelle as I had all the questions after Frozen 2 came out last year.
And I can tell you, I was not disappointed. (Don’t worry I’ve kept this review spoiler free, however, if you’ve seen Frozen you already know the end.)
The book follows Iduna and Agnarr from their first meeting in the Forbidden Forest and through to the first Frozen film, with plenty of references to people and places that are familiar to Frozen fans. Reading their journey is like welcoming an old friend into your home and talking about stories from your past in front of a fire sipping on hot chocolate (Which we know, chocolate is Iduna and Agnarr’s, and their daughters’, favorite of course).
Knowing how their tale would end didn’t stop me from investing myself in the ups and downs of their relationship. We get to see it bloom from both Iduna and Agnarr’s points of view which only makes the inevitable ending hurt even more. (Plenty of tears were shed by me, but there were a lot of laughs as well). Author Mari Mancusi does a wonderful job at capturing the parts of Iduna and Agnarr that remind us too of their future daughters so they feel even more familiar to us too.
But not only do we get to know Iduna and Agnarr, we get to know more about the kingdom of Arendelle and the people who live there, including those we see in the films as well as new (to us) citizens. Mari does a fantastic job at bringing the town to life in ways that make it seem even more real in your mind and want to visit (or is that just me?)
I don’t want to divulge more, as I said this review will remain spoiler free.
Frozen 2: Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr is perfect for all types of Frozen fans and I recommend grabbing a copy when it releases on November 3rd. Then watch the movies again and notice things you might not have before.
