As you know from my post about my word of the year, I’m obsessed with Dragons! There’s something about a majestic beast that can fly through the sky!
So when I saw this awesome project in the Cricut Design Space Make It Now projects, I just knew I had to make it!
I was a bit nervous making it because I don’t know if I could ever design something like that myself. But thankfully Cricut makes it easy by giving you a list of supplies needed as well as some written instructions.
I figured I should give it a shot so I pulled together my supplies:
- Cricut machine
- Cricut Essentials Tool Set (for the scoring tool)
- Poster board
- Red cardstock
- Glue gun with glue sticks
- Cricut Cutting Mat (strong grip for poster board, standard grip for cardstock)
I didn’t get any patterned paper like the project suggested and just used my red cardstock for the backing, but if you would like to get some patterned paper then you cand definitely do that!
Once I was sure I had everything I needed, I hooked my computer up to my Cricut and clicked “make it now”! I was then taken to a page that showed me all the different steps and the order to cut the pieces out. Before I could start cutting though I had to purchase the design. It’s relatively cheap though for only $1.99 and you can make it anytime you want afterward!
After I purchased the design, I inserted the scoring pen into the slot and followed the on-screen directions for cutting each piece of poster board and cardstock.
When I cut out the cardstock, I made sure to use the standard grip cutting mat as I’ve found that the cardstock likes to stick a bit more to the mats. I also use the spatula tool to help ease the paper off of the mat gently.
After everything was all cut out, I got out my glue gun and glue sticks and brought up the video instructions to build this awesome beast.
Because I’m working with thin paper, I like to make sure I’m using a low-temperature hot glue gun. I’ve had too many incidents in burning myself with glue guns and didn’t want to have any repeat burns.
After about a half hour I had my 3d Dragon head finished!
I’m pretty proud of myself for my first try! And besides, it really was SUPER easy to do it with the Make It Now project instructions! I am excited to make even more of them now because there’s a wide variety of different ones like cards, home decor, and even planner accessories!
What do you think of the 3d Dragon head? If you could make a 3d animal head, what would you make?
