When we found out we were pregnant for a second time, we knew we wanted a name that reflected my husband and I’s mutual geeky interests. While searching for names we found some that were more subtle in their geekiness and others that were a bit more obvious.
We found out we weren’t having a boy in January, so we weren’t able to use any of the names that we had picked out for a potential son. And even though we aren’t having a boy, I still wanted to share some of the geeky boy names that I liked. Some of these names didn’t actually make it on our final list, but they were names that I liked enough to have written down.
Thor
From the God of Thunder both of Norse mythology and Marvel comics fame, I feel like this is a strong name for a strong boy! Someone who has an electrifying personality as well.
Anakin
Is your son the chosen one? Or does he hate sand? Just don’t make him angry or he might turn to the dark side. This name was one I wanted but my husband vetoed. But it’s great for Star Wars fans like us!
Link (short for Lincoln)
With this name, you can show your history geek side and gamer geek side in one name! This name is growing in popularity but that just shows how great this name is. And it’s a bonus that it’s the name of one of the hosts of our favorite web show “Good Mythical Morning.”
Xavier
Do you have a feeling that your son is destined to help others fulfill their full potential? This name comes from the full last name of Professor X in charge of the X-men.
Xander
Another X name but not from X-Men. Xander is the lovable friend of Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As a bonus, this name can also be a nickname for Alexander, for Alexander Hamilton of course!
Westley
What better namesake than the true love of Princess Buttercup and the true identity of The Dread Pirate Roberts? You’ll find yourself saying “as you wish” more often than not with this Princess Bride inspired name.
Luke
While this name is inspired by the legendary Jedi, Luke Skywalker, it’s a more incognito geeky name to use when you don’t want to be as obvious of your geeky interests.
Peter
Here’s another incognito geeky name. It can stand for multiple geeky references as well! Peter Pan, Peter Parker, Peter Quill: Take your pick!
Dean or Sam
You don’t want to separate the Winchester brothers so these share a line! These brothers are loyal to their family, or at least the family business. You could use these for twins or on their own and Supernatural Fans will know what’s up.
Harry
A classic name that is also an incognito geek name. The boy who lived will live on through your little boy.
No matter if you got subtle geek or obvious geek for a name, remember your child can grow to love their name as much as you do! Explain to them the reason you chose the name and your passion will shine through!
Do you have any geek baby boy names that you like that I didn’t include? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to check out my post for ideas on Geek Baby Girl Names.
We named our som Finn, which was after Finn from Star Wars, but some people think of Finn from Adventure Time. Either way, we love the name, and Finn loves it too!
We love the name Finn! I think of it from both Star Wars and Adventure Time. But as we know from our next daughter’s name, Marceline, we do love when a name can have a double geeky meaning!
